Press Release
City of Rock Falls
Hydrant Flow Testing

Beginning Monday, June 5, 2023, weather permitting, the Rock Falls Fire Dept. in conjunction with the City of Rock Falls Water Dept. will be conducting fire hydrant flow tests as per NFPA 291 Recommended Practice for Fire Flow Testing.

Fire flow tests are conducted on the water distribution systems to determine the rate of flow available in various locations for fire fighting purposes. Tests should be made during a period of ordinary demand. Additional benefit is derived from fire flow tests by the indication of possible deficiencies, closed valves, lack of flow which could be corrected to ensure adequate fire flows as needed.

The area scheduled to be tested is identified as all hydrants from 1st Ave west to Clearwater Dr., West US Route 30 north to the Rock River.

Testing will be conducted starting on Monday, June 5th, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday until completed.

Discoloration of water may affect different areas of the system. Please be aware that this may cause discolored water and possible staining of clothing. It is recommended that laundry be completed after 6:00 p.m. or when the water is clear. Please check before using.

If you have any questions, please contact Customer Service @ 815 622-1115.
